Neil has survived the last eight years by running. One of Neil's new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can't walk away from him a second time. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny and the truth will get him killed.īut Neil's not the only one with secrets on the team. The team is high profile and he doesn't need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. He's short, he's fast, he's got a ton of potential-and he's the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as The Butcher. It is a very dark series but it is very good and there is a happy ending, thank god. I’d also add ablest language to the trigger warning list, along with torture and discussion of child abuse/child sexual abuse. It’s arguable about whether this is a result of his past, as when he was on the run with his mother she’d be physically violent with him if he showed interest in anyone, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he says himself “I don’t swing,” when asked if he swung one way or another on the scale of sexual orientation, and towards the end of the series he becomes attracted to/starts to fall for another character.Īlso while its mentioned above that this book is sports fiction, and it is, this is selling it a little short because its also about how Neil deals with running away from an abusive father, who is a mob boss, the death of his mother and how he tries to enjoy at least one last year before his past catches up with him. (Light spoilers ahead) Additional reason to read (because I read the entire series twice in less than 5 days I loved it that much) is that Neil, the main character, is, as far as I’m aware, canon demisexual, (I’m about 95% sure I’ve seen a post by the author using the word demisexual in relation to Neil but I can’t find seem to find it). THE FIRST BOOK IS FREE AND THE OTHER TWO BARELY COST ANYTHING WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE ( except your heart).THE SECOND BOOK IS CALLED THE RAVEN KING THIS IS A SIGN GUYS A SIGN.Dan, Renee, Allison, Nicky, literaLLY EVERY SINGLE OTHER CHAracter.Matt: the true cinnamon roll of this story, still a little aggressive, but good to the core.Andrew: literally a small ball of self-destruction with a huge overprotective streak, you will hate him and then you will love him just imagine a mixture between Ronan Lynch and Mickey Milkovich and add a little more aggression, unpredictability and pain and you got it (thanks to coldsaturn i can now not picture him as anyone else but Noel Fisher), sometimes he makes literature references.Neil: problematic and so not innocent, but still a cinnamon roll too good for this world, too pure, must be protected at all costs, has lived trough so much and continues to live through so much. You could literally swap every gender in this book and it wouldn’t change a thing. I have seriously never read women in fiction this well and realistically depicted. Seriously you don’t even know it’s happening at first, you might even have problems figuring out who the ship even is, but when you do suddenly everything in your life makes sense ![]()
